Why Startups Need Accounting Software from Day One

Image
Accounting software is one of the cheapest ways a startup can avoid expensive mistakes. It records every transaction in one place, creates GST-ready invoices, matches your bank entries, and gives you live reports on cash, profit and dues. A spreadsheet can work for a few weeks, but it breaks down quickly once sales, expenses and tax dates start piling up. At Sharda Associates , our Chartered Accountants (CA) help startups choose and set up their accounting system, file GST and tax returns from it, and prepare CA-certified project reports for bank loans and funding. When your books are kept in software from the first month, your project report can be built from real figures instead of rough estimates. That matters when a bank or investor reviews your business. Clean software records let a CA prepare projections, cash flow statements and repayment ratios quickly, and let you answer follow-up questions without searching through files. If you plan to raise a loan in the next year, ...

Form 26 Tax Audit Report: What Changes for Businesses From 2026-27?

Image
Short answer: From Tax Year 2026-27 (income from 1 April 2026), the tax audit report under Section 63 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 is a single Form 26, replacing Forms 3CA, 3CB and 3CD. Section 63 broadly corresponds to Section 44AB of the 1961 Act. For the year just ended, FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27), the old Forms 3CA/3CB with 3CD still apply. Reports describe the audit thresholds as carried over, but the form structure and section references change. Many businesses heard "Form 3CD is gone" and assumed it affects the audit they are completing now. It does not. The change is real, but it starts one year later, and mixing the two years is the most common mistake in the transition. Sharda Associates is a CA-led firm that has prepared over 45,500 CA-certified reports. Tax audit figures sit next to GST returns and financial statements in loan files, so a clean transition matters to lenders as well as to the tax department. This guide explains the two year rule, what changes under...

How to Deduct TDS on a GST Invoice: Should TDS Be Calculated Before or After GST?

Image
Short answer: If GST is shown separately on the invoice, deduct TDS on the amount excluding GST. CBDT Circular No. 23/2017 (19 July 2017) says this for payments such as contractor, professional, and technical fees, commission, and rent, and Circular No. 13/2021 says the same for TDS on the purchase of goods under Section 194Q. If the invoice shows only a GST-inclusive total with no break-up, TDS is generally deducted on the full amount. Every month, account teams stare at the same invoice: a base fee, GST at 18 percent, and a total. The question is simple, and a wrong answer is expensive. Deduct on the total and the vendor is short-paid; deduct on too little, and the payer faces interest and disallowance. Sharda Associates is a CA-led firm that has prepared over 45,500 CA-certified project reports. Lenders and auditors read TDS and GST figures together, so we treat a correct TDS base as a basic hygiene point in a business's books. This guide gives the rule, a worked example, the ...
